Old Lyme First Selectman's Message
Timothy C. Griswold, First Selectman

Old Lyme, a community of some 7,500 permanent residents and another 8,000 seasonal residents, is marked by independence, a strong spirit of volunteerism, and a long-standing commitment to conservation and the arts. The Town consists of 27 square miles bordered by Long Island Sound on the south and the Connecticut River on the west. Seasonal residents and visitors are drawn to Old Lyme because of its natural beauty and convenient location. Our Memorial Town Hall, located on Lyme Street in our Historic District, was expanded and renovated in 2008, and is home to an impressionist art collection. Information about our Town and our region is available in the Town Hall or on our website (www.oldlyme-ct.gov).

Old Lyme is noted for its rich history in the arts. In particular, the Town is proud of the Florence Griswold Museum, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, the Lyme Art Association, and numerous art galleries.

Miss Florence Griswold, inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 2002, opened her doors in 1899 to the Lyme Art Colony: Childe Hassam, Henry Ward Ranger, Willard Metcalf and others. Today, the Florence Griswold Museum's doors are open to the public for educational programs and nationally recognized exhibitions. The founder of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, noted sculptor Elisabeth Gordon Chandler, was a recipient of the prestigious Governor's Arts Award in 2000.

In the same year, the Roger Tory Peterson Wildlife Area at Great Island was dedicated in honor of the late Old Lyme native and naturalist. More than 700 acres of land have been preserved, thanks to the efforts of our Open Space Committee and the Old Lyme Conservation Trust. Maps of hiking and kayak trails are available on websites maintained by the Town and the Trust.

We invite you to enjoy the Connecticut shoreline with us!

Business Leaders Message

The nearly 200 members of the Lyme Old Lyme Council are proud to support our community. Many of our members participate in our monthly dinner meetings. Many more support our efforts through Toys for Tots donations, Halls Road Safety Walk, Adopt a Highway (roadside cleanup), CMRK-St. Vincent DePaul clothing-recycling bins, candidate debates, Fall boat rides on the Connecticut River, Holiday Carol Sing and Tree Lighting, Spring Taste of the Lymes, and Memorial Day Parade Flag donation & distribution. Each year we award multiple scholarships to Lyme-Old Lyme students.

We thank the members of our community for supporting our local businesses and for remembering to SHOP LOCAL! For information on our Chamber and our members, visit www.lolcc.com, or phone 888-302-9246.
